Breast cancer: chronic disruption of the circadian rythme increases the dissemination of cancer cells

Breast cancer is the most wide-spread cancer in the world and one of the main causes of death in women. A study implicating scientists from the Paris-Saclay University, INSERM and INRAE just established a link between night shift working and an increased risk of cancer, suggesting that disruption of circadian rythms could make tumors more agressive. This study was published in the journal Nature Communications on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

Can RNA therapy help get rid of SARS-CoV-2 during respiratory infection?

Two INRAE teams (Jouy-en-Josas) and a laboratory in Santiago, Chili, are sharing their expertise in RNA virology and molecular biology to conceive via bioinformatics a series of antisense oligonucleotides that by linking specifically to key regions of the SARS-CoV-2 viral genome, allow their destruction and therefore block viral multiplication.

The study of mitochondrial sequences integrated in the bovine nuclear genome

Nuclear copies of mitochondrial DNA (NUMT) have already been described in several species. Dominique Rocha of the G2B team and his partners ientified and analyzed 166 bovine NUMTof a total length of 430 kpb, representing approximately 0,02% of the nuclear genome of cattle. Their studies were published in Scientific Reports.

GenTORE : GENomic management Tools to Optimize Resilience and Efficiency.

The objective of GenTORE is to develop innovative tools for genomic selection and management in order to optimize the resilience and efficacy of cattle in different environments. These tools, including genetic and non-genetic variables, will be applied throughout the all chains of bovine production systems (dairy, beef and mixed). They will increase the economic, environmental and social viability of European production chains of dairy and beaf cattle.

Mapping of domestic animal genomes made in France

Genome mapping of an economically important species means establishing the role of the different elements of the genome. This functional mapping will then provide a better understanding of the relationship of genes and phentoypes (1). INRAE scientists launched the French pilot project FR-AgENCODE in order to enrich genome mapping of four livestock species (cow, chicken, goat and pig). The results of this work, published on December 30, 2019 in BMC Biology, improve knowledge on the functionning of genomes of these species, contributing to the internationally fixed objectives of FAANG (« Functional Annotation of Animal Genomes ») (2).

A new research highlight: "Genetic determinism for cheese-making ability of milk."

Prediction equations for cheese-making abilities using Middle-Infrared spectra of milk were developed and applied to several million spectra in the Monbeliard bovine breed. A genetic analysis shows that coagulation parameters and yield are heritable. An association analysis on the whole genome sequence level identified 59 QTL and a network of 736 co-regulated genes.
