GUPPIE (Useful genetics for fish and insects in agroecology)

Animation : Delphine Lallias et Florence Phocas

Global theme

The major challenges are to adapt our fish and insect populations to sudden and rapid climate change, and to facilitate the agroecological transition of livestock farms. Responding to these challenges requires the development of science and technology fronts. The aim is to specify the genetic and epigenetic levers of action that allow our species to cope with environmental fluctuations, in particular the rise in temperature, and the increase in the pressure of infectious pathogens. The purpose of our project is to produce fish and insects in fluctuating environments and resilient, more environmentally friendly farms.

Scientific questions

1- Fish genomes, microbiome and epigenome : The team is pursuing research on a detailed exploration of the structure and diversity of rainbow trout genomes, encompassing the pangenome, structural variants and the mitochondrial genome. Our research will also aim to characterize the diversity of the gut microbiota associated with rainbow trout.

2- Phenotyping and genetics for the agroecological transition : This axis aims to explore several key themes to improve the resilience and efficiency of farms, with a particular focus on trout and bee health.

3- Selection for resilient and sustainable farming : This involves the development of approaches that allow the development of selection objectives by integrating the environmental impact of production.Research Devices.
