Book "Advances in poultry genetics and genomics."

A new book published on: "Advances in poultry genetics and genomics."

This book provides the state of the art in terms of poultry genetics and genomics. The last similar edition was published over 10 years ago and it is now time to relate all the progress made by genomics in one edition for the poultry industry, amateur breeders, scientists and students in poultry farming along with decision-makers.

This new book published as part of the Agricultural Science series reviews by Burleigh Dodds Science Publishing, reviews the current challenges that poultry farming is now facing, such as genetic diversity and physiological constraints.

This book presents a panorama of recent research on genetics, the study of production traits (meat, eggs) but also functional traits such as immunity, bone strength or welfare, and their implications in breeding. The book resumes the progress that has been made in genomic selection techniques and their use in the breeding of broiler chickens and laying hens. It concludes by examining the emerging tendencies such as the use of epigenetics and genome editing in poultry farming.

There were two GABI member that contributed: Michèle Tixier-Boichard is a member of the editors and authors group and Marie-Hélène Pinard-van der Laan was in charge of the edition of a chapter. Several other authors belonging to the Animal Genetics Division of INRAE also participated.
