Platforms and Expertise within the GABI Unit

Research efforts draw on various types of resources: networks, platforms, and shared research and experimental infrastructures accessible to both the public and private sectors in the fields of microbiology and health, developmental biology, and livestock genetics. All shared scientific infrastructures are committed to a quality assurance approach, with most being ISO 9001 certified.

Platforms and Expertise

The platforms bring together expertise and equipment for the preservation of biological samples and their analysis at the molecular, cellular, or tissue level. Some of the equipment and specialized know-how have been consolidated within the Platforms team and made available to all scientific communities:

  • The @BRIDGe platform, which offers services in biobanking, (meta)genomics, microgenomics, and functional and morphological analysis (histology) at the cellular or tissue level.
  • The @BRIDGe Biological Resource Center is integrated into the RARe research infrastructure, within its animal pillar, CRB-Anim. @BRIDGe’s services can be utilized for the characterization of the biobank’s collections.
  • The Cellular Ultrastructure Unit (PUC), the transmission electron microscopy service
of the MIMA2 imaging platform, is a partner of the EMERG’IN research infrastructure.

The UMR GABI also has an immunophenotyping facility and a mouse transgenesis laboratory. The UMR works closely with numerous INRAE experimental facilities.

INRAE Experimental Units

This INRAE-specific facility houses numerous genetic resources to support various interdisciplinary research programs.

Animal experimental units related to the unit’s research:

  • Cattle: UE0326 DEP, Le Pin-au-Haras (61); UE0332, Bourges-La Sapinière (18).
  • Fish: UE0937 PEIMA, (Sizun, 29); UE0907 IERP, Jouy-en-Josas (78).
  • Chickens, quail: UE1295 PEAT, Nouzilly (37).
  • Pigs: UE1372 GENESI, Rouillé and Le Magneraud (17).
  • Rabbits: UE1298 SAAJ, Jouy-en-Josas (78).
  • Rodents: UE0907 IERP, Jouy-en-Josas (78).

The mouse transgenesis facility: an experimental facility dedicated to breeding mice in a contained environment.

Other research facilities

   • The objectives of the CRB-Anim Biological Resource Center (INRAE ISC Infrastructure): CRB-Anim aims to integrate and strengthen biological resource centers (BRCs) conserving reproductive material and genomic material for domestic animal species farmed in France, mammals, birds, fish and shellfish..

    • The National Observatory of Bovine Anomalies (ONAB): Observation of the emergence and clinical description of genetic anomalies, at the national level between the different actors.
