Publication of the book "THE HORSE AN ATHLETE IN ENDURANCE: selection, preparation, competition", by the French Horse and Horse-Riding Institute (IFCE).

The Pure Blood Arabian race horse has been the object of several research projects including one very important one from 2011 to 2018 (the GenEndurance project) focused on the relations between sports performances, genetics and physiological and biomechanical traits that determine the aptitude for endurance. There have been many scientific publications issued from these studies but a review as a practical guide was necessary in order to diffuse new knowledge to breeders, riders, trainers and veterinarians. The recent publication of this book by the members of the BIGE team of GABI (UMR 1313) will help meet this need for the diffusion to the public and training in the equine sector.

Written for the equine industry, this book summarizes the latest knowledge acquired through research in physiology and genetics of muscle exercise conducted by the BIGE team.

Equine endurance has become an international equine field in recent years (exporting of Pure Blood Arabian horses).

It is a demanding field whose success at high free speeds is the result of an accumulation of numerous small details that ensure that the right horse arrives, in good health, at the right moment on the right track. Genetics is one of the imporant factors that determine the quality of horse endurance and its capacity to adapt to this extreme effort.
