The SG-Truite project, coordinated by Pierrick Haffray (SYSAAF), is financed by the European Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Fund as part of the "Fishing and Aquaculture innovation" programme.

The general objective of SG-Truite is to develop tools and methods to allow genomic selection on the rainbow trout, the primary French Aquaculture species. The project is based on the use of the first DNA array commercialized by Affymetrix containing 57 501 SNP from the rainbow trout genome. The project includes the consitution of the first reference populations from three French breeders for the main traits that determine performance of French rainbow trout lines (cutting yields, female reproduction and resistance to infectious pancreatic necrosis).

From there operationnal tools will be developed (a selection of reduced marker panels - less expensive, data treatment, genomic evaluation models) that will allow the development of genomic selection both technically and economically efficient for French trout breeders. This innovation is awaited by all actors of aquaculture breeding since it should produce important gains in efficiency. In addition, these tools will improve our understanding of the genetic architecture of traits implicated and allow the evaluation of genetic diversity of French commercial rainbow trout populations.
